Are You a Christian?

If someone were to threaten to destroy your most prized possession and ask, “Are you a Christian?” what would you say?
If someone were to put a gun to your head and ask, “Are you a Christian?” what would you say?
If someone were to put a gun to the one you love’s head and ask, “Are you a Christian?” what would you say?

Will you compromise your faith for anything? Or will you keep your belief in Christ until the end?
Think about it.

The Crutch

“What is it, Lord?” What am I holding back? What am I using as an excuse for not serving You in whatever You want me to do?”

And then, there by the canal, I finally had my answer. My “yes” to God had always been a “yes, but.” Yes, but I’m not educated. Yes, but I’m lame.

With the next breath, I did say “Yes.” I said it in a brand-new way, without qualification. “I’ll go, Lord,” I said, “no matter whether it’s through the route or ordination, or through the WEC program, or through working on at Ringers’. Whenever, wherever, however You want me, I’ll go. And I’ll begin this very minute. Lord, as I stand up from this place, and as I take my first step forward, will You consider that this is a step toward complete obedience to You? I’ll call it the Step of Yes.”

I stood up. I took a stride forward. And in that moment, there was a sharp wrench in the lame leg. I thought with horror that I had turned my crippled ankle. Gingerly I put the foot on the ground. I could stand on it all right. What on earth had happened? Slowly and very cautiously I began walking home, and as I walked, one verse of Scripture kept popping into my mind: “Going, they were healed.”

I couldn’t remember at first where it came from. Then I recalled the story of the ten lepers, and how on their way to see the priest as Christ had commanded, the miracle happened. “Going, they were healed.”

Could it be? Could it possibly be that I too had been healed?

I was due at a Sunday evening service in a village six kilometers away. Normally, I would have ridden my bicycle, but tonight was different. Tonight I was going to walk all the way to the meeting.

I did it too.

Brother Andrew went on to be a missionary behind the Soviet Iron Curtain, risking his life for the sake of the Gospel. It all began that day when he finally let go of everything and completely submitted himself to God’s Will.

What is your crutch?

My New Watch

Wow! Y’all should see my new Timex watch! And the best part about it is… I didn’t have to pay for it!!! Yeah! You want to know how I got a brand new watch, for free? Simple! I just took a metal box, lit off a few firecrackers inside, shook it up, lit a few more firecrackers, shook it some more, let it sit, shook it a little more, and viola! I’ve got a brand new watch! Pretty sweet?

What? You don’t believe me? Good, I didn’t think I could pull you in that easy. If you think that’s absurd, you should hear these theories called “The Big Bang” and “Evolution!”

The Greatest Thing

One of the scribes came and heard them arguing, and recognizing that He had answered them well, asked Him, “What commandment is the foremost of all?” Jesus answered, “The foremost is, ‘HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH. [Deuteronomy 6:4-5]’ “The second is this, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF. [Leviticus 19:18]’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
-Mark 12:28-31 NASB

The greatest thing we, as Christians, can do is follow God’s instruction. As stated in Mark 12, the greatest commandment is “The Lord our God is one Lord; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.” (Deuteronomy 6:4-5 NASB & Mark 12:29-30 NASB) If we simply love the Lord with all our heart [God is in the very fibers of your being], soul [God is who you are], mind [God is constantly in your thoughts], and strength [God is the one who drives your activities], everything else in life will follow. Think about it, if our entire existence is to love God, then we will strive to follow His will. If we are striving to follow His will, then our sin nature will be pushed out by our desire to follow God’s Will! (Luke 6:45)

The question we should be asking is, “How do we constantly strive to follow God’s will, and not our sin nature?” If we memorize scripture, and keep key verses on the forefront of our thoughts, God’s Will shall be on the forefront of our thoughts. Therefore we will be filling up ourselves with His word and Will, and shall push out our sin nature. (Luke 6:45)

Our Shield

You, o Lord, are a shield about me.
-Psalms 3:3a NASB

The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped;
-Psalm 28:7a NASB

Why do we worry? Why are we scared? The Lord will protect us and give us the strength we need, if we follow Him. What is the point of worrying? (Matt 6:34) Why are we concerned of what others think? If we keep our eyes focused on God, and not man, our life will be changed – for His glory.

Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you;
He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.
-Psalm 55:22 NASB
