Haven’t We Gone too Far? (Video Games)

This article was written by Seth D H on TheRebelution’s forum.

To my brethren,

Greetings and Salutations. I hope everything goes well for you.

I have noticed that these PS3’s and Xbox 360’s are, dare I say it, becoming too idolized. Let me explain. While driving by a Best Buy, we (my mom and I) had to take a detour because of all the tents. I said, “Mom, what’s going on here?” She said, “They’re waiting for PS3’s to go on sale in three days.” THREE DAYS! Excuse me, but that seems going a bit too far. I also noticed that the domain name ps3.com is selling for 6800 dollars. And the systems are going for more. Did I miss something?

Let us go back to my early childhood. The thing of the season was the playstation. Just the regular old playstation (I could play Frogger at home! Imagine!) Well, they were going for about $250 as I remember, and being 8, that money wasn’t going to be found in the nearest gutter. Than, with a descent of angels, and Holy spirits blowing trumpets, I had an idea. Santa Claus! What a wonderful man. All the things I wanted, he could make for free. I just had to believe he was real. Heck, I’d believe that Jay-Z was a pastor for a mega-church if it meant getting free toys! Anyway, I finally got one of those playstations, and still have one today. Back then, i could say, “I got a Playstation!” and all my friends would go, “You lucky booger!” Now, I am kicked out of youth group because I act like Playstations are awesome.

I can’t help but wonder, “Are we going to far with these video games?” It almost seems like people are idolizing these machines. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are nothing wrong with video games per se. But when we see people sleeping in tents, I get this message, ” I want this thing SO bad, that I’m willing to give up my bed and my three days, just to sit here and wait for this here playstation to be sold.” And that seems kind of ridiculous.

We could go round and round on this subject, so I really don’t want to get in a debate on the merits of video games. Remember, “all things are permissible, but no all thing are beneficial.” In my words, it says, “We can do anything we want, but not all the things we do are helpful to us.” I know some of you will disagree that we canNOT do anything we want. And I want to remind you, that God gave us free choice, not to abuse it, but in hopes (and he already knows) that we would give it back to him. There is nothing stopping me from getting off the computer and robbing a bank. But all things we do have consequences. Think about this. I just saw one of those playstations on sale. “The console, four controllers, and your pick of two games! Only $60!” That should tell us something. We should be faithful stewards of what God has given us, and things that depreciate in value, we should be careful on how much money we spend on it.

Once again, I am NOT condemning video games. I am merely making you, my readers, aware of the problems with new consoles. Think about what I said. A DOMAIN NAME is 6800 dollars. (don’t believe me? go to ebay and type ps3 domain names) And for those of you who do buy one, I’m not condemning. I am just saying that you should look at all the facts before you buy. As for me, I’m going to wait till I get a bargain on a PS2 since they are getting outdated quickly.

All of God’s Peace and Blessings
Seth

Where Have All the Men Gone?

This article was written by Seth D H on TheRebelution’s forum.

Brothers,

This is a post about us. Where have we gone? I know that today when you look through the youth groups, you see countless BOYS, not men, in the youth group. And that’s all today’s culture is. I want to exhort you, my brothers, on two counts.

First, what about girls? Where was I when the memo came out the intimacy before marriage is okay? I define intimacy as any act that involves a man and a woman with their bodies, even hand-holding! We don’t need to be playing girls like a game. Whatever happened to helping the girls pursue purity, not just trying to meet our selfish gains. I am one of you! There’s nothing I want more than a girlfriend. But brothers, we need to understand that we do not deserve them unless we are committed! We have no right to a girlfriend unless we have thoughts of further commitment!

I am not saying that we should ignore girls altogether. Hardly! But that we should pray and encourage our sisters! You would not kiss your sister! So unless that sister becomes a “special sister” than you need to realize that they are not your property and that we should protect them and help them remain pure for their future husbands. I know I would be furious if I knew that my wife had another man. And so would you! So respect girls and protect them!

Secondly, let’s look at our manhood. What makes a man? Is it burping and muscles and cigarettes? Is it bedding as many girls as possible? No! But that’s the message we get today, from TV to radio to video games to computers. We need to realize that to be a man is not easy. It requires work on our part to achieve that level of “manliness.” There are plenty of boys out there. Immature boys.

I exhort you, go against the flow of the world, pick up your swords, and charge! Find Christian brothers who will keep you accountable and help you, not drag you down with false counsel. Who says that sharing your feelings isn’t manly? I say “Cry when you’re sad, laugh when you’re happy, and pray when you’re mad!” Go against the media.

All the way,
Seth

The Cross - Part IV

Continued from // The Cross - Part III

The Cross jerked, bringing Jesus back to the moment. Slowly it began to move skyward. Weekly, Jesus looked right and left. On either side of Him, the other crosses were being raised. With a lurch, the Cross fell forward into the hole made for it, throwing Jesus against the nails. Groaning, Jesus looked Heavenward, looking for the Father. As Jesus gazed, the clouds darkened, darkness fell, and the Father left Jesus. In His desperation, Jesus cried out to His Father, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” But the Father did not hear Him; Jesus alone shouldered the burden of the sins of mankind.

There He was, nailed to the Cross, with two common criminals on either side of Him, and a sign above Him that mocked, “This is the King of the Jews.” Roman soldiers were about the crosses, three of them were casting lots for His clothes, ordinary people were passing by on the road and would throw insults at Him, and there was a small throng still lingering and insulting Him. In front of Jesus stretched the city of Jerusalem, with the Temple sparkling above the low-lying homes and shops. The sky was overcast, the sun was fading, the whole countryside looked bleak, as if it was mourning for the Son of God.

As the two men and Jesus hung on the crosses, the one of Jesus’ left began throwing insults as Jesus as well. “Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!” But the one of Jesus’ right rebuked him, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” He then turned to Jesus and pleaded, “Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!” And Jesus replied, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.”

At the sixth hour, there was a great thundering in the clouds, and the whole land became black as if it was night, and it stayed dark until the ninth hour. As the ninth hour rolled came, Jesus lifted His head heavenward and cried out, “Father, into Your hands I commit My Spirit,” and, Jesus Christ the Lord, died. As the echoes of His cry died away, Jesus exhaled, and went limp. At that moment, there was a great earthquake. In the Temple, just as the High Priest was about to sacrifice the perfect lamb for the entire nation of Israel, the veil between the Court of the Priests and the Holy of Holies tore from top to bottom. The priests cried out in alarm, and turned to run out of the Temple. But there, on the hilltop, Jesus hung on the Cross, as if a lamb who was slain. Several of the priests fell down on the spot in worship of the true Lamb of God.

So much controversy exists over this war in Iraq, against such elusive foes - Terrorists. Dispite the media’s portral of the war, the US has worked much good in Iraq. Yet a large portion of the public demands that US Forces pull out of Iraq and the neighboring area.

A Simple Soldier

Author: Unknown

He was getting old and paunchy
And his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the Legion,
Telling stories of the past.

Of a war that he once fought in
And the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies;
They were heroes, every one.

And ‘tho sometimes to his neighbors
His tales became a joke,
All his buddies listened quietly
For they knew where of he spoke.

But we’ll hear his tales no longer,
For ol’ Bob has passed away,
And the world’s a little poorer
For a Soldier died today.

He won’t be mourned by many,
Just his children and his wife.
For he lived an ordinary,
Very quiet sort of life.

He held a job and raised a family,
Going quietly on his way;
And the world won’t note his passing,
‘Tho a Soldier died today.

When politicians leave this earth,
Their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing,
And proclaim that they were great.

Papers tell of their life stories
From the time that they were young
But the passing of a Soldier
Goes unnoticed, and unsung.

Is the greatest contribution
To the welfare of our land,
Some jerk who breaks his promise
And cons his fellow man?

Or the ordinary fellow
Who in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his country
And offers up his life?

The politician’s stipend
And the style in which he lives,
Are often disproportionate,
To the service that he gives.

While the ordinary Soldier,
Who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal
And perhaps a pension, small.

It’s so easy to forget them,
For it is so many times
That our Bobs and Jims and Johnnys,
Went to battle, but we know,

It is not the politicians
With their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom
That our country now enjoys.

Should you find yourself in danger,
With your enemies at hand,
Would you really want some cop-out,
With his ever waffling stand?

Or would you want a Soldier—
His home, his country, his kin,
Just a common Soldier,
Who would fight until the end.

He was just a common Soldier,
And his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us
We may need his like again.

For when countries are in conflict,
We find the Soldier’s part
Is to clean up all the troubles
That evil starts (*the politicians start*).

If we cannot do him honor
While he’s here to hear the praise,
Then at least let’s give him homage
At the ending of his days.

Perhaps just a simply headline
In the paper that might say:
“OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, A SOLDIER DIED TODAY.”

If it weren’t for the men and women in the armed forces, who knows where this country would be. Shouldn’t we show gratitude for their sacrifices? Instead of shame for what they do?
