Your Shepherd
David: The Lord is my shepherd, He may turn out to be your shepherd, too!

Christians are often called “sheep” (Matt 25:32-34) and Jesus Christ is often called the “Good Shepherd.” (John 10:11) Why?
First of all, what is a sheep and what is a shepherd? Sheep are the little animals that go “baa” and give us wool. They stick together in herds, eat grass, and are… well… for the most part, rather stupid. Shepherds are people who guide the sheep to good grass and water, protect them, and care for them. It is the shepherd who keeps the sheep safe.
“But why are Christians sheep?” The better question to ask would be, “Why is Jesus the ‘Good Shepherd?’”
Jesus is our protector. He guards us and watches over us (John 10:1-18). He leads us to the ‘green pastures and still waters’ (Psalm 23) - a.k.a. ‘the good stuff in life.’ He is the one who guides us and lifts us from the valleys. He is the reason we’re alive.
Sheep on the other hand, tend to ‘follow the herd,’ even into danger. They can’t see the big picture and fight against each other. Usually the stronger sheep make it to the center of the herd - the safe spot. Sheep are prey with a ‘survival of the fittest’ mentality.
Most sheep just turn to the nearest one [sheep]!

Both sheep and people will often turn to each other and go off in the wrong direction. However, Jesus, the Good Shepherd, will guide us in the right direction. He is the one we should follow (John 1:1, Psalm 119:105). God is the true ‘Good Shepherd’ and He will guide you and protect you - if you want Him to. God will be your shield (Psalm 3:3) - He will protect you.
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.

Hey! Yeah, I totally agree. Maybe this a little off topic, but it hit me as I read. Jesus is also called the Lamb of God. I think, when paired with the verses you mentioned, it gives a pretty sweet impression of how much Jesus was like us, and how low he had to stoop for us. But He is still called a Lamb, indicating He was pure, blameless, untainted, however you want to say it. Sorry if I completely changed the subject. and I hope this makes sense. It did me, but that usually doesn’t mean much….:-)

We need to follow Christ, and Him only. He is the only one who will lead us in the right direction 100% of the time.
